Not only am I...

Yes, not only am I a quiz genius (I've now won the quiz two weeks in a row!) BUT I am also...

*DRUM ROLL*

The Cao Rou Champion of Aston Schools China! What that means is I am fucking brilliant at eating Cao Rou (that's kebabs) and I can also drink beer.

The challenge was 100 skewers of cao rou and 5 bottles of beer in 100 minutes. The results? I ate 100 + cao rou and three 625 ml bottles of beer in 8 minutes and finished the last two bottles in another 15 minutes. My closest competitor finished 1 minute after me, he was also sick 3 minutes after I finished forfeiting his place as the second best eater. The third person to finish was... ughh... god knows who and how long they took to finish but they weren't very good what ever happened to them.

This challenge was also going on simultaneously across China in a few other cities and they were destroyed by my families great eating and drinking genes.

And, aghh, it's halloween soon and I still need to find a costume. There's also two parties to attend then and teaching... gona be a busy night. Another quiz on Sunday and I have to attend to keep my mighty quiz crown and because my friend is the quiz master.

Too much stuff to do in little China.

Pub Quiz

I won a freaking pub quiz, booya!

At around 11pm last night me and 4 friends managed to kick ass and win the GZ Jazz Bar's pub quiz by an out=standing margin of three points! Brilliant I know, it takes a certain type of person to win a quiz against a field of enemies as deadly as ours was. It was neck and neck through out a good portion of the quiz, but when we slammed down our 'Joker' (double points) on the China round there was no looking back. 18 out of a possible 20 there, just as good as our domination of the Sports round which we won with a score of 9/10.

I must say, this will go down in the analls of quizzes as a great day!

After winning we received our prize, a bottle of barcardi. Although I wasn't up for drinking at all my team mates managed to finish it, and we shared the wealth with those other teams who we dominated so easily.

All in all a fun night, although I was slightly dissapointed by the fact that no muslim kebab men were open at 3;45am where I lived, you could get everything else but muslim kebab sandwhich goodness.... GIVE ME MY CAO ROO SANDWHICH.

P.s. I'm so tempted by buying a Sony Reader, but I don't trust the first generation. Sony Reader is the portable book device... thing. It needs further examining, to be tested and the price to go down first though.

Last day of school!! (This week... (And other things!))

Also until tomorow when I have more Adult classes to teach!

First week of the new term has been ok. I do 25 hours teaching a week, which doesn't take into account hours spent at work/hours preparing/over-time in scheduled lessons etc. which would put it upto about 35 - 37 hours I'd imagine. Aiya!

Have to be active, smiley, churpy, jumpy, fun and not angry for that many hours a week is a bitch. If I wasn't constantly in view of parents/students I could take a break for a few minutes, but they're EVERY WHERE! Which means 'happy face' every where. Not that I don't enjoy it, I love the job (at the moment, but some of the older (in years alive) teachers say it'll get to me sooner or later, how optimistic!). Teaching is a great time usually.

This week has been great, except maybe 3 of my classes, which puts me into an optimistic mood going into the next 7 days.

My Adult classes, I have 2 classes I teach for 1.5 hours twice a week, were good. I was a bit worried about it; new class format, older students (conciderably), different student goals/aims and the fact that 95% of them are older than me (infact I think I only have 1 younger than me, not that they know my age).

But after the classes I was pretty buoyant. Everyone seemed active, like they wanted to learn, like they would try and that they could learn. There were some nice people there, good personalities (Kobe (named after the basketball player) is 42 years old, balding and hillarious. Keeps finishing off my scentences and doing quirky things. Constantly takes the piss out of people in class in Chinese then looks dumb-founded when I understand). So after the initial nerves I'm looking forward to my next class (Tomorow... shit!). But I must do it, for Joy! She needs to learn English so she can talk with her Australian husband and live there. And for the... other one! Who is moving to America (90% of Chinese people's dream) and is hating the idea and doesn't want to go, she loves the China, and so do I!

Gona start updating more regularly now aswel. In the week I teach on Tuesday - Thursday, but these are evening classes (w00t!) which start at 5:45 (Weds) and 6:00 (Tues/Thurs) which is definately working well at the moment. I get the hole week to lie in, work a bit at night, then intencive on Sat/Sun. The week end kills me, but it's ok, I get the next few days to recover.

Other news; I bought an NDSL (Nintendo DS Lite) last Friday, cost me 1800 Yuan for everything I needed for it (the DSL it's self, case, screen guard, adaptor for plugs, 'illegal hax0r memory card' 1gb and cart to use the 'illegal hax0r memory card'.) and games are free and illegal. I get 21 - 25 on the card which is ideal as I don't have to carry anything extra around. It's hand-held, cool and brilliant for traveling. It will also save me money in the long run so I can save (now I don't have to go out and drink/shop as much).

I think I'm buying a computer. Well mum says her and mah pa' will help me buy it 1/3 each or something like that, which is useful. It's good not having a computer (on the get out alot more than I would if I had one side of things) but it's getting a bit hectick. In Xi'an I don't go to internet bars, so I only check the net at work, I can't Skype people back home as much (a worry cause I never know how Dad/Gran will be feeling health wise (Worry!)) and a computer's just damn useful for everything from teaching and emailing to music and movies for my mp3.

I was going out with a girl called Sophia for two weeks. Thought it would last, got a lovely TXT the other day at Craig's (my friend/boss) house saying "Bla, bla, bla [that's the short version] you're really handsome, funny, lovely, sexy, the bext person ever etc. etc. But I can't be your girlfriend cause [bull shit excuse] you're younger than me [/bull shit excuse]. Can we still be best friends". In England that would be complete bull shit, in America you'd get a baseball bat and smash her place up for saying that (via txt!) but in China it's normal. The reason is valid in Chinese thinking/society/culture which is what is even more infuriating and idiotic. Conclusion; Chinese girls are using me for sex. One of the few highly developed (kinda) societies in the world which is still VERY traditional in romance (The amount of times I've heard from students that if I kiss a boy I'm probably going to marry him.) and I manage to sleep with a myriad (what a good word!) of Chinese girls in no-time, none of which want anything long-term, the one thing I'm looking for. I'm not angry, I just find it funny. If beautiful girls want to use me for sex, so be it. But I really am looking for a long-term girlfriend and it seems impossible.

There must be other news but I can't think what it is... I got a new room-mate? His name is Elliot, pretty cool guys, lived here for a while (In Xi'an) and seems solid. Met him a few times before at work and out-side work but didn't know him that well. Looking forward to getting to know him better.

Also concidering going back to England for 1 month or 2 months after my contract ends here to see family, but that is pure theorising and may not happen. Depends purely on job prospects in China (ideally some sort of pormotion inside Aston).

Probably going to update more in the next few days when things come to my head, sorry for all the typo's, too lazy to use that pretty 'ABC' spell-check button.

Ohh, another Chinese teacher here, cool guy called Alex, just gave me this deep comment to start a potentialy riveting conversation; "I've never had sex with a foreign girl, only Chinese, but the Chinese girls just lie there like a dead fish. What are your thoughts on this?"

Fame... !

I've been on TV 3 or 4 times, in the newspapers numerous times, I'm currently on a poster out side the Government building in my old city, me being the lover of the Chinese government I am, but I have never done radio... until Saturday D:~

Finally a radio appearance! I was on Xi'an Music Radio (or something), the biggest station in the province. Naturally I was doing the Culture show for... Wales (I'm so bloody cultured after all)! I was bigging up the land of my name-sake superbly. Giving the 1.5 million listeners information such as; Wales only has 10 residence but 5 million sheep, Wales has some mountains, Cardiff is the capital of Wales, Wales is beautiful and I may want to live there someday, Cardiff and Aberitswyth have ok Universities and Wales has a dragon on it's flag! All stunning facts that you could only find on Xi'an Music Radio. I must say, I foresee an influx of Chinese people into Wales purely because of my quality radio show. I also got to play some obscure Hip Hop on radio from my MP3 player, which was interestingly cool. Akira the Don (the closest I could think of to Welsh music on my player) is on UK radio a bit, and now he's a regular feature here on Chinese radio to!

It was a smallish show, and only 1.5 million listeners, but it pays the bills.

Alex and Gregor, my Project Trust flat mates, left Xi'an for Beijing yesterday. They're getting a flight back to the UK in 3 days. I'm all alone! Just me and m fans...

Also got my wallet stolen whilst out with friends on Saturday.... bollocks! On the plus side it means I get to go shopping for some more stuff. A wallet, naturally, and I guess I need a new bag and some more trousers... definitely!

Now to plan my lesson... blah!

The story so far - China Year One - Part 1

Carwyn Morris moved to China on the 24th of August 2005... well... sort of?

Upon arriving at Charles De Gaule airport in the plane from Heathrow, I may have, theoretically, picked someone else's bag up. In theory I did this, made my way to the baggage-check for my next plane and then was confronted by the guy whose bag I theoretically had.

For the next 40 minutes I ran all around the maze that was CD'G in Paris. I spoke to many people, traversed the hole terminal and ran around on the airport waving hands wildly! Then, eventually, I found the bag... about 20 meters away from where I started out.... huzzah? Ohh yes, I'd missed the plane (well, it was still fucking there just not letting me on!).

So, I'm there, walking around like... shit. Where do I go now? The French man with a funny tasch says "Walk that way." So I walk... and walk... and walk, get a luggage holder and then... walk! Finlay I find a help-desk where a beautiful lady, much prettier than that Naomi Campbell, who I shall compare her to, is! Well she was like "Yo fizzle dizzle homes'!" And I was like "YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!" I regale my story, sort of, blaming the entire thing on the terrible airport management and get a free room in a nice airport for the night! Score~

Then I realise I have no Euros or Dollars so I can buy anything... dang!

Well, everything goes well after that, I finally arrive in Beijing. Alone, sweaty, lonely, tired and by my self! I hadn't taken advantage of the free long haul flight drinky McAlcohol which I now realise, in hindsight, was madness. And if I had I probably wouldn't have run into my second, probably the greatest, problem ever!

I walk off the plane, some how get past customs, disease check etc. I held my nerve and didn't say I had Avian Flu on my papers and then I took the long hike to the baggage area (By the by, that arrived over a day ago on my other flight). Well, me being the cunning individual I am, like a fox, I find it. My woe's are over!... No.

Jenny, my Project Trust helper lady is all "Oh my fucking god, you're late, you should've have been hear yesterday, you're an idiot~! Let's go; Run, run, run, fast fast, fast!" So I go... and go, I have 50kg on my back and my passport in my hand. I put my passport, ingeniously, in the luggage holder and make haste. Run into the taxi, through everything in my hands in the back, and we go(!) to my hostel.

*Ten Minutes Later*

"Can you pass me your passport Carwyn, we need it to get you into the Hostel." "Ok, it's just in that see-through b-- FUCK!" "Where is it Carwyn?" "It was in my see-through bag, I had it... it must've been in the taxi!"

*Ring, ring goes the taxi drivers phone*

"MeiYou" ("Not here at all, ever, not exsisting... nothing" for use whose illiterate in the Chinkese wordsies). "I hate you Carwyn"...

We go off to the Police Station, get the WORST PICTURES EVER taken of me after more than 24 hours awake and at 37c + in Beijing (These pictures are stile alive in my new passport). A few days later I have my passport, only took one morning to do.

I also promptly got my visa. (5 months later, 2 hours AFTER my train to Shanghai, for my holiday, had left, yay?)

That is Carwyns version of 24: Getting to China told in gripping, illegible, fashion in a blog which I should have started alongggg time ago.

More 'China: Year 1' later.

Kids... everywhere

... ! They're attacking me from every angle.

In my ten minute break I tend to lose weight with random children. I chase them for about a mile around the school, leap out from behind walls and then EAT THEM ALL! In my last lesson I had a game which started resembling a scarily male 8 year old orgy, with me in the middle.... it was Blink Death! Blink-and-you'll-miss-the-paedofilic-action Death.

And try getting Chinese kids to guess Orc in 20 questions... ho... ho... ho! I am the best teach-arghr evar!

Now to stare down the loose fitting tops of my 18 year old students @.@; And I'm sure one of my 12 year old students was drunk in the class photo... interesting!

Google Blogger, ayyy?

D:~

Finaly using a blog thing. I may update for the past year in China in my free time.

Teaching, teaching teaching is.... TIRING!

Today I got assaulted by 17 kids, good my ass hole poked 3 times by young boys and taught the kids about the wonders of farting. Fang Pi!

Hooray! (Which is a word I also just taught!)
